Watch Vaughn Gittin Jr. Test His 900-HP 2016 Ford Mustang RTR
Lots of smoking, lots of noise.
Hand a professional drifter something with rear-wheel drive, and they're going to get very sideways, very fast. Hand a pro drifter a 900-hp Mustang RTR set specifically up for drifting, and the result is backwards corner entry, clouds of smoke, and earsplitting noise. Want proof? Ford Performance released a new featuring gratuitous footage of Vaughn Gittin Jr. behind the wheel of this own Mustang RTR drift car.
According to the video, this is the "maiden voyage" of the 2016 Ford Mustang RTR, packing a massive Roush-built 7.1-liter V-8 engine, sending all 900 ponies to the rear tires through a manual transmission. In the video, Gittin Jr. kicks the rear end way, way out on first entry, resulting in a sea of tire smoke and a wall of noise from the V-8. The wide Nitto NT05 tires are vaporized as he executes a series of donuts and slides for our viewing pleasure.
The video also features a close-up shot at the complicated front steering rack and suspension setup created specifically for drifting, which allows substantially more turn-in than a conventional suspension set-up would allow.
Need some V-8 noise in your day? Take a look at Vaughn Gittin Jr. gratuitously removing the rubber from his wheels in the video below.
