Watch the Porsche Cayman GT4 Tested on Ignition
Can the top-dog Cayman beat the legendary 911?
Is the 385-hp Cayman GT4 the mid-engine Porsche that will finally take down the legendary 911? This week's episode of Ignition, hosted by Jason Cammisa, aims to find out, with plenty of hard driving on the road and on the track to see what the top-dog Cayman can do.
With a suspension from the Porsche 911 GT3 and a 3.8-liter flat-six from the 911 Carrera S, the Porsche Cayman GT4 seems to dispel the notion that Porsche holds back the mid-engine Boxster and Cayman to keep the 911 atop its high perch. Cammisa is immediately pleased with the strong power of the flat-six on some curvy canyon roads, but wonders if the car is almost too easy to drive in this setting.
Next up is a stint at the track to get some hard numbers on the new Cayman. Benchmarks for the figure-eight test include the Cayman GTS, at 23.8 seconds, and the hardcore 911 GT3, at 22.8 seconds, and the Cayman GT4 acquits itself well amongst this formidable competition. Finally, hotshoe Randy Pobst joins Cammisa at the racetrack to push the Porsche Cayman GT4 to its limits during some exciting hot laps.
