Watch Corvette Z06, Mercedes-AMG GT S Enter World's Greatest Drag Race
10 sports cars square off on the runway for the latest race.
It may have taken the crown as the 2015 Motor Trend Best Driver's Car, but how does the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S stack up in a 10-car drag race? To find out, our colleagues at MT did what they do best and organized the latest installment of the World's Greatest Drag Race on the runway at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in southern California.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was an early favorite to win this year's drag race. After all, it packs an incredible 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque from its supercharged V-8 engine, outpacing the AMG GT S's 503 hp. But other contenders also had enough power to put them in the running: The Bentley Continental GT3-R packs 572 hp, the Cadillac ATS-V has 464 hp, its wilder CTS-V cousin boasts 640 hp, the Mercedes-AMG C63 S has 503 hp, and the Porsche Cayman GT4 has 385 hp.
The Lexus RC F also came to join the WGDR party, with 467 hp on tap from its 5.0-liter V-8 engine, while at the very back of the pack in terms of horsepower, the Volkswagen Golf R brings 292 hp and the Mazda MX-5 Miata packs 155 hp.
