Watch the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Blast Through the Desert
The twin-turbo, aluminum-body Raptor attacks some dunes
To keep us hyped for the arrival of the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, the automaker has released a short off-road video of the supertruck blasting its way through rock and sand.
The original Ford F-150 Raptor made a name for itself with mighty off-road capabilities, including the ability to fly across open desert terrain at absurd speeds. In this video, the new Raptor crushes the rough terrain in the same manner, with plenty of jumps, donuts, and sand rooster tails to whet your appetite.
It has been a while since the Raptor made its debut at the 2015 Detroit auto show. At the 2016 Detroit auto show, we saw the production debut of the off-road monster, with official powertrain details pegging the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine pushing out more power and torque than the outgoing Raptor's 6.2-liter V-8. While we're still waiting on more specifications, the truck will have a ten-speed automatic transmission and a weight loss of "up to" 500 pounds over the outgoing Raptor. This diet, combined with the prodigious power and new transmission, means the 2017 Raptor will have much stronger performance and better fuel economy than the old truck.
