Visitors to a Los Angeles shopping mall recently received a bit of a surprise as they witnessed their cars magically transform into a 2015 Porsche Macan.
Porsche teamed up with digital production company Thinkingbox to engineer what they called the Porsche Macan Magic Mirror. The concept was simple: As mall goers drove into the garage and looked to their left, the magic mirror made it appear as if they were rolling through in the new 2015 Porsche Macan. Porsche says the installation was up for 10 days, allowing over 900 drivers a fleeting chance to imagine themselves as a Macan driver.
The Macan Magic Mirror, of course, isn’t really a mirror. It’s essentially a fancy, high-tech setup that combines cameras and a large wall of flat-screen TVs. Still, the concept is pretty cool, especially if you’re a fan of Porsche’s newest crossover.
As predicted, the 2015 Porsche Macan is turning out to be a big seller for Porsche. Since reaching showrooms in May, the Macan has found its way to 6,377 U.S. customers, already surpassing the Panamera’s entire year-to-date sales. The Cayenne continues to be Porsche’s best-seller with 15,271 units through November. Given its lower entry price and early popularity, we expect the 2015 Porsche Macan will overtake the Cayenne in terms of sales next year.
