Tuned 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Comes to SEMA with 800 HP
Hyundai's display at this year's Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas will feature a tuned version of the 2014 Hyundai Genesis coupe packing 800 hp. The car is based on the standard Genesis coupe's 2.0-liter turbo engine, which makes 274 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque from the factory.
To nearly quadruple the engine's output, tuning group Blood Type Racing fully rebuilt the engine of the 2014 Hyundai Genesis coupe, adding stronger internal components, a larger turbocharger, wider exhausts, a nitrous-oxide injection system, and a toughened six-speed manual transmission. Blood Type Racing says the car now sends 800 hp to the rear wheels, and claims that at the crankshaft, the 2.0-liter mill produces closer to 1000 hp.
There are, fortunately, several safety upgrades should things get out of hand when drivers unleash all 800 hp. The interior has been fitted with a roll cage, bucket seats, and racing harnesses. Moreover, the chassis packs upgraded suspension, various additional braces, stronger anti-roll bars, and sticky Toyo R888 tires on new 19-inch wheels. Visually, Blood Type Racing enhanced the 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe with a new wide-body kit, Candy Red paint, and an enormous rear wing. It's a far bolder look than the standard Genesis coupe, and with nearly four times as much horsepower.
Tuned cars with ludicrous horsepower numbers will be commonplace at Hyundai's SEMA stand. This year, the automaker also plans to show off a Sonata midsize sedan tuned to produce a Challenger Hellcat-beating 708 hp, and a Genesis luxury sedan with 550 hp.
