Team APEV and Monster Tajima Will Bring EV to Pikes Peak
Six-time Pikes Peak winner Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima has teamed up with the Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (Team APEV) to set a world record at Pikes Peak in an electric-powered racecar.
Tajima has set two world records at Pikes Peak and was the first racer to complete the course in less than 10 minutes. This year he wants to beat his current record in the Monster Sports and Team APEV EV Challenge racecar.
Others have attempted to take on Pikes Peak in EVs, but none have attempted to beat the world record set by an internal combustion racecar. Summit Motorsports has sent two EV racecars to Pikes Peak and Nissan raced a stock Nissan Leaf. This year, Mitsubishi will bring a radically modified i-MiEV.
Besides testing the latest EV technology, Team APEV and Monster Sports are racing the EV Challenge at Pike Peak to raise awareness for other environmental projects as well as ongoing support for those affected by last year's earthquake and tsunami that rocked Japan.
