Super Zuk? Suzuki Swift S-Concept Previewed Before Geneva Debut

Suzuki froze plans on importing the Swift to North America late last year, but the model continues to live and thrive in other corners of the world. Although the car has a reputation for being a frisky, fun subcompact offering, it appears the Swift S-Concept, which will debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, may crank up the heat and create a truly hot hatch.

Unfortunately, Suzuki isn’t saying (or showing) much of the Swift S-Concept beforehand, as it’s only released this single digital image of the car’s front fascia. Sources suggest a facelifted Swift will launch in Geneva, but the S-Concept show car pushes the styling envelope a step further. Flared fenders, projector headlamps, gaping lower-air intakes, and a wild rear spoiler appear to be inspired by Suzuki’s Swift WRC rally car, and lend the Swift-S an aggressive appearance.

What’s beneath that skin, however, is anyone’s best guess. The current Swift Sport utilizes a 1.6-liter I-4, which sends 123 horsepower and 109 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels. Large 17-inch wheels and dual exhaust tips lend the Sport some street cred, but with 2436 pounds in tow, the hatchback is still a little ways from being a certified pocket rocket. Some suggest the Swift S-Concept could potentially adopt a turbocharger, or even send power to the rear wheels via an all-wheel-drive system.

We’ll likely know more when we finally lay eyes on the Swift-S in person come March 1st. Stay with Automobile Magazine for all the latest news and debuts happening at the Geneva show.
