Subaru XV Concept Teased for Geneva, 2016 XV Crosstrek SE Revealed
Concept is a follow-up to Impreza sedan and hatch concepts.
Subaru's next-generation Impreza is on the horizon, as previewed by the Impreza Hatch and Impreza Sedan concept cars shown during last year's Tokyo and Los Angeles auto shows, respectively. At the upcoming Geneva auto show in March, we'll get a sneak peek at the next Impreza-based XV crossover, shown in this teaser image ahead of its debut.
From what we can see, the Subaru XV Concept will use a similar front end as the Impreza sedan and hatch concepts (pictured below), but with extra body cladding befitting its more rugged look. The red-accented wheels are also different than the Impreza concepts, and the XV looks to have a higher ride height and a skid plate under the front grille.
Expect the new Subaru XV to follow a similar formula as the current XV Crosstrek, which is essentially a lifted Impreza hatchback with slightly different bodywork. Though it might sound simplistic, those ingredients added up to an impressive sales total of 88,927 units last year, as the Crosstrek outsold both the Impreza and Legacy models in 2015.
All variants of the next Impreza will ride on a new modular platform from Subaru, and the car's new design language is called "Dynamic & Solid." The brand's signature all-wheel drive will continue to be standard, and an updated 2.0-liter flat-four engine will likely power most U.S. versions of the car. A plug-in hybrid may also join the lineup, possibly to replace the current XV Crosstrek Hybrid.
Keep an eye out for more details on the Subaru XV Concept as it is revealed in Geneva March 1.
2016 Subaru XV Crosstrek Special Edition
In the meantime, the current Subaru XV Crosstrek gains a new special-edition model that debuts at the 2016 Chicago auto show later this week. The 2016 Subaru XV Crosstrek SE comes only in Pure Red, and features red trim for the interior including red stitching and a red dash insert. Only 1,500 units will be sold, all of which are based on the 2.0i Premium trim level with the All-Weather package.
