Spied: 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Prototype
The evidence is mounting for a high-horsepower Hellcat version of the 2015 Dodge Charger sedan, and our spy photographer has now spotted what looks like a prototype of this 707-hp supercharged muscle sedan in the flesh. A few key similarities like the wheels, tires, and grille tip us off that this test mule may be a Hellcat rather than a standard 2015 Dodge Charger SRT.
The big clue that this 2015 Dodge Charger SRT prototype is packing the same 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V-8 as the Challenger Hellcat is the wheel and tire package. Both of these red and white Charger prototypes are sporting the same huge Pirelli P-Zero tires as the Challenger Hellcat, along with the multi-spoke wheels that look identical to those on the 707-hp two-door musclecar.
Secondly, if you look carefully through the camouflage obscuring the front end of this 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat prototype, it's clear that this car has a different grille insert than all other versions of the 2015 Dodge Charger. Rather than the traditional Dodge crosshair grille, we can see a glimpse of a blacked-out, honeycomb grille insert that looks just like the grille insert seen on the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
These visual cues, along with last week's report that Dodge has an SAE certification for the 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 in both Challenger and Charger applications, means that the 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is all but confirmed. Even though a Dodge spokesperson couldn't comment on this report, Dodge's recent five-year plan did include a Charger SRT with a supercharged V-8 as part of the future product timeline. Stay tuned for more news about this Hemi-powered beast of a sedan, which could become the most powerful four-door car ever.
Look for the Charger SRT Hellcat to debut sometime during the 2014-2015 auto show season, with the production model possibly going on sale sometime early next year along with the rest of the updated 2015 Dodge Charger lineup.
