Shelby Reveals 50th Anniversary Edition 427 Cobra
Shelby releases special variant of the continuation Cobra.
Shelby may be currently known for their impressively powerful and fast Mustang variants, but the Shelby name was first synonymous with racing domination and the legendary Shelby Cobra. More specifically, the Cobra which captured so many imaginations was the 1965 427 Cobra, featuring a massive Ford 427 (7.0 liter) V-8 engine. In honor of the big-block Cobra's 50th anniversary, Shelby American is releasing a special anniversary edition of the continuation Shelby Cobra.
These 50th anniversary Cobras feature the same mechanical setup as the normal continuation Cobras. The regular 427 S/C Cobras (called the CSX4000-series) uses a fully independent suspension, upgraded disc brakes, and a lightweight body of either fiberglass or aluminum. All Cobras come as a rolling chassis, without an engine or transmission, leaving buyer to choose an engine and install it themselves.
The 50th Anniversary edition Cobra also sets itself apart from Shelby's regular continuation Cobra with specialty anniversary logos and badging, premium interior materials, a 23-gallon racing-style fuel tank, powder coated frame, racing brakes, and custom gauges. Shelby is currently developing a special optional engine package to further distinguish the limited-edition Cobra.
The 50th Anniversary Cobra will begin at $119,995 for the fiberglass bodied Cobra, and $179,995 for the aluminum body. All fiberglass 50th Anniversary Cobras are finished in Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White stripes, while the aluminum-bodied Cobras will be finished in the bare polished aluminum.
Be prepared to act fast if you are planning on placing an order, as the 50th Anniversary Cobra is limited to 50 units. The 50th Anniversary Shelby Cobra makes its debut on January 12th at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, and orders open the next day on January 13th.
