Shelby GT500 Super Snake Signature Edition Revealed

Shelby announces a commemorative Super Snake package for the GT500.

With 662 horsepower on tap from its 5.8-liter supercharged V-8, and a top speed north of 200 MPH, the 2014 Shelby GT500 is no slouch. However, with the original run of 2007-2014 GT500s coming to a close, Shelby American is releasing a Super Snake Package to honor the highest-selling Shelby Mustang. Called the Signature Edition GT500 Super Snake, the package features a host of both performance and visual upgrades.

With the substitution of the stock supercharger for a 3.6-liter Kenne Bell supercharger, the Signature Super Snake packs 850 horsepower. To handle the significant power boost, the Super Snake receives the Shelby Performance cooling package, including a new radiator, heat exchanger, and aluminum cooling tanks. The Signature Super Snake also receives upgraded rear brakes and a revised suspension.

The enhancements are not all mechanical, however, as this wouldn't be a true Shelby Mustang without some aggressive exterior modifications. The Signature Super Snake comes with a modified front clip and hood, bespoke forged Weld wheels, and special 'Signature' commemorative badging. On the inside, interior trim has been modified with exclusive features and unique floormats, and the airbag cover on the steering wheel has been fitted with a commemorative Carroll Shelby signature decal from the Carroll Shelby Foundation. A wide-body conversion kit can be installed as an extra cost option.

The Signature GT500 Super Snake can be ordered in any color available offered from Ford on the factory GT500, along with color stripes from the same palette.

As an added bonus, owners who purchase the Signature Edition will receive a special track-day training session aimed to familiarize the owners with their new Shelby. "The Shelby GT500 Super Snake is an incredibly capable car," said Gary Patterson, Shelby American Vice President of Sales, in a statement. "We want to teach owners how to leverage all of the extra power, handling and braking their car possesses. So we're including a day of personal training upon delivery of a Super Snake at the same track where Shelby American tests all if our cars."

The package is limited to 50 cars, a combination of both the coupe and convertible models. Unfortunately, all the exclusivity does not come cheap, with the package coming in at $44,995, not including the price of the donor GT500 itself. All Super Snakes will be constructed in the Shelby American factory in Las Vegas. For those who are interested, time is running out, as orders will be closed on January 31, 2015.
