Shelby American GT Pack Wrings More Power From Ford Mustang EcoBoost
Turbo pony car gets 335 hp.
Think Shelby American is only interested in modifying the V-8-powered Ford Mustang GT? Think again. The tuning company this week revealed its new Shelby GT package for the Ford Mustang EcoBoost. Available for both manual and automatic versions of the turbocharged Mustang, the Shelby GT package gives the car an aggressive aftermarket look and more horsepower.
Shelby starts by tweaking the 2.3-liter turbo-four engine in the Ford Mustang EcoBoost with new computer programming and a Shelby/Borla exhaust, boosting output from 310 hp to 335 hp. Twenty-inch wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Sport tires help get that power to the ground.
The Shelby GT package also includes several new body parts that mimic the look of V-8-powered Shelby Mustangs. Those accessories include a new hood, front fascia, side skirts, and spoiler made from carbon fiber, as well as Shelby Registry interior badging, and Shelby logos embroidered in the floor mats and head rests. Options include larger Wilwood brakes, a short-throw shifter for manual-transmission models, Sparco race seats with five-point harnesses, and Katzkin leather upholstery.
The entire Shelby GT package costs $23,995 on top of the base price of a Ford Mustang EcoBoost. The 2016 Ford Mustang EcoBoost coupe starts at $26,295 with destination, while the top-trim EcoBoost Premium convertible rings in at $35,795. Shelby American is accepting deposits for the car now, with its officially launch pinned for this coming fall.
