Saab CEOs Celebrate Independence, Enter Saab 92 in Mille Miglia
To celebrate its newfound independence, Saab and Spyker's CEOs will campaign a vintage Saab 93 rally car in this May's Mille Miglia event in Italy.
Back in 1957, the 93 took home the brand's first-ever motorsport victory at the Finnish 1000 Lakes Rally. Driven by Erik "Mr. Saab" Carlsson, the modest three-cylinder overtook many bigger, more powerful competitors thanks to its better handling and lightweight build. A replica of the race-winning car will be on display at this week's Geneva Motor Show.
Following the show, Spyker CEO Victor Mueller and Saab CEO Jan Ake Jonsson will field the replica in the classic car race. They'll both follow the actual 1000 Lakes car, which of course, won't be pushing too hard down the scenic roadways.
A total of 52,731 Saab 93s were produced between 1955 and 1960.
