Report: Porsche Boxster and Cayman GTS Models on the Way
The Porsche Boxster and Cayman sports cars will soon join the Panamera sedan and Cayenne SUV in offering an upgraded GTS model, according to a report from Autocar. These performance-oriented versions will be positioned slightly above the Porsche Boxster S and Cayman S models, with a small power boost and some exterior upgrades.
Autocar says that details of these models were leaked last year to American Porsche dealerships. Both models will reportedly have 15 hp more than the S models, which would mean 330 hp for the Porsche Boxster GTS and 340 hp for the Porsche Cayman GTS, both of which use a 3.4-liter flat-six engine. Both manual and PDK dual-clutch transmissions should be offered, and Porsche's active suspension system is expected to be standard. The Porsche Boxster and Cayman GTS will also look slightly more aggressive, with 20-inch wheels, new front and rear fascias, and LED accent lights up front. These enhancements should make the Boxster and Cayman GTS the quickest and sharpest variants of Porsche's smallest sports cars, although they will not be quite as hardcore as the last-generation, ultra-lightweight Porsche Cayman R and Boxster Spyder.
Given the nearly $20,000 premium that a Porsche Panamera GTS carries over a Panamera S, we would expect a significant price premium for the Boxster and Cayman GTS. The 2014 Porsche Boxster S starts at $63,095, and the 2014 Porsche Cayman S starts at $64,795, with destination.
Autocar says that the Porsche Boxster and Cayman GTS will debut at the 2014 Beijing auto show in April.
