Refreshed Lexus IS Teased Ahead of Beijing Show Debut
A new look on the way for the for the Lexus sport sedan
There's a new look on the way for the Lexus IS sedan, as evidenced by this teaser photo. Set to debut later this month at the Beijing auto show, the IS will debut with a fresh design that Lexus claims is an "exciting breakthrough" based on the company's "L-finesse" styling language.
What exactly those changes will entail remains unclear, though this teaser photo shows the Lexus IS will continue to have its check mark-like running light strips below polygonal headlights, with the company's enormous grille extending from the base of the hood to the bottom of the front fascia. The recent Lexus LC 500 concept may provide some hints as to the look of the new IS.
Lexus says only of the new IS that, "The bold evolution of design with greatly enhanced visual impact will absolutely ignite people's desire to put their hands on the steering wheel."
This generation of the Lexus IS first arrived in the U.S. in 2013, and was updated for the 2016 model year with a new 2.0-liter turbo-four as its base engine. For the 2015 model year, Lexus had already updated the IS's technology offerings and slightly revised its interior design. In addition to the base 2.0-liter, IS shoppers can elect a 255-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 in the IS 300 AWD, and a 306-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 in the rear-drive-only IS 350. We're not expecting significant powertrain changes for this refreshed version.
Check back in the next few weeks for full details and photos of the updated Lexus IS once it bows in China.
