One Last Lap in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru WRX STI

The beginning is the end is the beginning.

Turning onto Gingerman Raceway's front straight, the 2015 Subaru WRX STI's front-left tire ran over a snow mound, a thawing remnant from a relentless winter that beat on southwest Michigan. Slush flew through the air and landed on the windshield of the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution nipping at the STI's heels.

Soon, though, that slush will have to land on some other car's windshield, seeing as how Mitsubishi will kill the Evo after the 2015 model year. The saga of the STI and Evo, from their similar genesis stories to their grizzly WRC battles to their similar, stunning on- and off-road capabilities, is unreal. An opus that won't soon be forgotten, but we had to remind ourselves what made us fall in love with these two in the first place. And to do so, we would have to push them to the ragged edge, where they're most charming.

We borrowed a 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and a 2015 Subaru WRX STI and went to Gingerman, our comfort track in South Haven, Michigan. The STI and Evo are now both more capable and more impressive than ever before, with limits difficult to exceed. As we slid the cars around the road course, they reminded us just how close they are in performance while being so different in character. Watch the video below to find out what we mean.
