Toyota Camry Continues To Lead Midsize Sedan Sales In November

The Toyota Camry continues to dominate the midsize sedan category, posting November sales of 30,386 units. The Honda Accord and Nissan Altima were again second- and third-place finishers, respectively, but neither model could touch the Toyota Camry’s more-than-30,000 number. The Honda Accord sold 27,093 units for the month, while the Nissan Altima sold 24,604 units.

The Ford Fusion landed in fourth place in the midsize sedan sales race with 22,839 units sold, a marked improvement over the 15,125 Fusion sedans sold the same month last year. The Hyundai Sonata continues its charge into the mainstream, selling 16,595 units for a fifth-place finish in the midsize sedan pack. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Sonata’s corporate cousin Kia Optima sold 10,871 units for seventh-place midsize sedan honors. The Chevrolet Malibu finds itself sandwiched between the two Korean brands, with sales of 14,405 units.

The Volkswagen Passat couldn’t break into the five-digit realm, but did manage to find 8876 buyers to surpass the Chrysler 200, which sold 5621 units for the month. The 200’s Dodge counterpart — the Avenger — sold 4887 units, below the 7132 sales from the same period in 2012. The Mazda6 continues to fill the sporty midsize sedan niche, more than doubling its result from November last year at 3641 units. The aging Subaru Legacy once again finds itself on the bottom with sales of 2911 units. Judging by the Subaru Legacy concept that bowed at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show, however, a next-gen model isn’t that far off.
