Nissan Teases Electric Concept Car Ahead of Tokyo Show

Does this preview the next Leaf?

Nissan released a new teaser for the upcoming Tokyo auto show, claiming it will presage the brand’s future vision of car intelligence and electrification.

We can’t tell much from the teaser, but the styling is a familiar blend of Nissan’s latest trends, with the hood arches, headlights, and V-motion grille all looking similar to what we know from the new Nissan Maxima. Flared-out wheel arches are paired with an extended highlight line starting from the upper corners of the grille, passing through the headlights toward the rear of the car.

The concept’s front badge is illuminated in blue, which is a motif we recognize from the all-electric Nissan Leaf. The Japanese automaker’s only all-electric vehicle is due for an upgrade, so it’s very possible that this concept will preview the next Nissan Leaf.

The 2016 Nissan Leaf recently received a battery upgrade for its SL and SV trims, increasing range from 84 miles to 107 miles.

Nissan is already gearing up for a few other concepts for the Tokyo show. The 2020 Vision Gran Turismo concept and the Teatro for Dayz concept both present a vision for performance and entertainment, so it’s likely that Nissan will use this unnamed concept to push its electrification strategy.

Check back soon at the start of the Tokyo auto show next week.
