Nissan Concept 2020 Vision GT Revealed
Nissan today pulled the sheets off its Concept 2020 Vision GT, the latest in a series of wild concept cars that will be available for virtual test-drives in the Gran Turismo 6 video game. The car, which was teased last week, is a wild supercar with extreme angles and lines, and may provide hints as to the look of the next real-world Nissan GT-R.
For now, the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision GT is merely a styling exercise penned by Nissan Design Europe, and it will be available to drive as a free download in Gran Turismo 6 starting in July. However, Nissan says the design on the concept was so impressive that engineers from the Nissan Technical Center in Japan weighed in on the car's hypothetical performance.
Moreover, the company strongly hints that this concept will influence a new sports car, potentially signaling a design direction for the next-generation Nissan GT-R. In a statement, the company said that the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision GT, "gives hints as to how a supercar of the future might look… Nissan believes that the real world is ready for the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo. Watch this space."
The Nissan Concept 2020 Vision GT has a low, wide nose with a large central air intake, and prominent vertical air intakes beneath the super-skinny headlights on each of the front fenders. Just like the existing Nissan GT-R, the concept car's hood has creased vents near the base of the windshield. The greenhouse, too, resembles that of today's GT-R, with a wraparound windshield, blacked-out A-pillars, and a canted roofline. In the rear, the Vision GT sports an enormous carbon-fiber wing, four protruding circular taillights, and a trapezoidal exhaust mounted above the large aerodynamic diffuser.
While it's highly likely this Nissan Concept 2020 Vision GT gives an exaggerated look at the next-gen GT-R, for now it will remain a virtual car for PlayStation gamers. It follows two other recently announced Gran Turismo cars, a topless Volkswagen GTI Roadster and a hybrid-drive Mitsubishi XR-PHEV.
