Mazda Recalls Over 374,000 Vehicles for Faulty Airbags
Mazda has submitted a recall with the NHTSA for select 2003-2008 Mazda6 models, along with select 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 and 2004 RX-8 vehicles for faulty passenger airbag inflators.
The Problem: Select Mazda6, Mazdaspeed6, and RX-8 vehicles have an issue with the front passenger airbag inflator, making them susceptible to rupture in the event of an accident, which would make the deployment of the front passenger airbag necessary. If the inflator ruptures in an accident, metal fragments could hit vehicle occupants, resulting in serious injuries or death.
The Fix: Mazda will contact owners of the affected vehicles and replace the front passenger airbag with a new one at no cost. This recall supersedes previous airbag recalls and covers vehicles affected by those recalls, and owners may contact Mazda directly at (800) 222-5500 with recall number 9015L for more information.
Number of Potentially Affected Vehicles: This recall affects a total of 374,519 vehicles, including select 2003-2008 Mazda6 sedans manufactured between May 29, 2002, and May 5, 2008, a limited production of the 2004 RX-8 manufactured between June 25 and 30, 2003, along with select 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 manufactured from July 1, 2005 through June 29, 2007.
