Matching Mini Clubman and Airstream Trailer Cater To Beach-happy Individuals
What do a Mini Clubman, an Airstream, and an egg-shaped chair have in common? Up to now, precious little, but such shapely furniture will be installed in a customized Cooper S Clubman and Airstream trailer by Swedish furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen.
Debuting at next week's Milan furniture show, the matching Mini and trailer have been reworked to, in theory, appeal to beach-goers. Most of the Clubman's interior has been trimmed in a black neoprene material (not unlike that of a wetsuit), while the 22-foot-long Airstream trailer sports a completely waterproof interior. One neat touch lies with the sunbathing bed, which is mounted to a wall that folds away from the trailer's body itself.
If this seems a bit like an automotive non sequitur, it is - although the Clubman is mechanically stock and some items inside the Airstream are presently available through Fritz Hansen. If anything, we're most intrigued by the modifications performed on the trailer - they're somewhat modern and energetic. Between this show piece, the Ford Airstream concept, and the Nissan-designed Basecamp trailer, the legendary camper manufacturer seems quite interested in leaving its traditional elderly demographic and finding a new active, youthful customer base.
