Lotus Creates Special Edition Elise and Exige for Former Director of Engineering
Roger Becker, formerly the director of Lotus' vehicle engineering, celebrated 44 years of service with Lotus before retiring this past January. In honor of his service, Lotus is introducing special edition Elise SC RGB and Exige S RGB models.
"I am honored that Lotus has named these two special editions after me, especially as it allows me to offer the customer my favorite specifications," Becker said. "The past 44 years have been an incredible journey and I'm looking forward to watching Lotus progress in the future. I have no doubt that the company will continue to go from strength to strength."
The Lotus Elise SC and Exige S RGB editions each come with Becker's favorite vehicle specification, which includes both the Sports and Touring packages. The Sports Pack includes lightweight forged aluminum alloy wheels, a tighter suspension, twin oil coolers, traction control, and ProBax sport seats. The Touring Pack includes a foldable soft top, leather seating and door trim, upgraded stereo, and full carpeting.
Each RGB edition car also comes with a numbered plaque, Becker's signature on the side of the car, and a special monochrome Lotus hood badge. The cars are offered in four colors -- Aspen White, Starlight Black, Solar Yellow, and Carbon Gray -- and are based on the revised Elise/Exige with the Evora-styled front fascia.
The Elise SC and Exige S are both powered by a supercharged 1.8-liter inline-four-cylinder sourced from Toyota. The Elise SC produces 217 and the addition of an intercooler enables the Exige S to produce 257 horsepower. The special edition models are a last blast for these models in Europe as well, as they will no longer be on sale in Europe after 2010. Production will continue for other markets, and the new 2011 models with the 1.6-liter four-cylinder will be sold in Europe.
Neither of the RGB models will cross the Atlantic as Lotus plans to keep them Europe-specific. The cars go into production this September at a price of €43,655 (about $54,000) for the Elise SC RGB and €50,042 ($62,000) for the Exige S RGB.
