Jeep Teases "Trailcat" Wrangler Concept Ahead of Easter Jeep Safari

Is the 707-hp engine coming to the Wrangler?

Jeep buyers are the sort of people who love to customize and tweak their vehicles, whether it be for mall-crawling or bounding through Moab. The engineers at Jeep love to stoke customer imagination every year with a series of concept models revealed for the annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, but this year the company is promising a seriously intriguing model. Called the Trailcat, the Jeep Wrangler concept looks to have considerably more ventilation than usual in its hood, potentially signaling that a supercharged V-8 is underhood.

We know for a fact that the 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 from the Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat will make its way to a production version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. While this Trailcat would only be a concept, we'd still be eager to see (and more than a little nervous to drive) a 707-hp version of the Jeep Wrangler off-roader. A regular Wrangler has only 285 hp from its 3.6-liter V-6 engine.

Jeep has not yet shared any details on the Trailcat -- check back later this month for more -- but both the name and the abundance of cooling vents in the car's hood give us hope that there's something powerful in there.

Jeep also teased a Crew Chief concept, and said that it will show five other concepts as well. The Crew Chief appears to be a butch off-roader, with large knobbly tires and aggressive angles on its bodywork.

This year's Easter Jeep Safari takes place in Utah from March 19 through 27. Check back soon for full details on all seven concepts.
