Honda Civic Type R Sedan Tests Flared Fenders, Giant Wing at the 'Ring

Ever since the Honda Civic Type R broke cover at the Geneva auto show earlier this year, we have been clamoring for every little detail we could get our hands on about the upcoming super-Civic, which we finally got a chance to drive in Slovakia. Now, our spy photographers have caught the new Civic Type R sedan out for testing on the Nurburgring.
We previously saw a Type R sedan prototype testing, but at the time, it wore demure bodywork and an Acura-like front nose. This Type R prototype, however, has bulky fenders, aggressive side skirts, and a large rear wing. Around back, we see the same three-pipe exhaust outlet we saw on the previous mule. The general shape adheres to the look of the regular 2016 Honda Civic sedan that was recently introduced and will launch in the U.S. market later this year.
The powertrain of the U.S. Type R sedan will likely match the Type R hatch, with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, sending 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. With a bucket of go-fast bits like heavy duty brakes, an aggressive suspension, a trick front differential, and extremely sticky rubber, the Type R hatch lapped the 'Ring in a claimed 7 minutes and 50 seconds. The sprint to 60 mph takes just 5.7 seconds, and the Type R continues to a claimed top speed of 167 mph.
