Green Light: 200 Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Edition Models Go Into Production
Get ready to hear the sound of winning on your way to the grocery store, Europe: Infiniti has started production on the FX Sebastian Vettel, and will make 200 copies of the super-SUV.
We already knew that the model had been green-lit, but this news puts the F1 Champion-fettled Infiniti one step closer to being ready for public consumption.
The Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel, as the name suggests, was designed in part by Formula 1 Champion Sebastian Vettel, along with Nissan and Infiniti Chief Creative Officer, Shiro Nakamura. The car is based on the FX50S Premium, which uses a 5.0-liter V-8 engine and a seven-speed automatic transmission, but both the engine and transmission have been tweaked for more performance.
The engine's intake and ECU have been changed to up the engine's power output from 385 horsepower to 414, and the automatic transmission's upper gear ratios are taller. The results aren't bad: the Vettel FX goes from 0-60 0.2 seconds quicker than the stock car, and can reach a top speed of 186 miles per hour. The car receives a full aerodynamic kit with front and rear valances, a set of side skirts, and a functional deck spoiler.
How much will all of this cost? Infiniti hasn't said anything specific yet, but has indicated the Vettel edition will come in above the existing FX50 Premium model. Don't expect to see one in the United States, either: all 200 will only be sold to clients living in Europe and the Middle East.
