Ford Recalls 336K Vehicles for Door Latch Problem
The Problem: Ford has discovered an issue with door latches on certain 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta subcompacts and 2013-2014 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans. A "broken pawl spring tab" can prevent a door from latching, and even if the door does manage to close, it could fly open again while driving.
Ford notes there have been three incidents related to the problem. The first two involve drivers who were injured while attempting to close unlatched doors. Another driver who was pulling into a parking space alleges that an unsecured door flew open and struck an adjacent vehicle.
With this latest announcement, Ford has now issued three recalls for door latch issues this year.
The Fix: Ford will replace all four door latches at dealerships. Drivers will not be charged for the repair.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: A total of 336,873 vehicles in the U.S. are affected by the recall. The recall involves certain 2012-2014 Ford Fiestas built at the Cuautitlán Assembly Plant from February 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013; certain 2013-2014 Ford Fusions built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant from July 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013; and certain 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant between July 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013.
