Ford Ranger Wildtrak Unveiled for Markets Outside U.S.

Ford has revealed the “ultimate model” for the global-market Ranger pickup. The Ford Ranger Wildtrak features bolder styling and new smart technologies including the latest SYNC 2 voice-activated control system.

Up front, the Ranger Wildtrak features projector headlights that flank a bold trapezoidal grille featuring a dark, liquid metallic gray finish, which carries over to the side mirrors, door handles, side air vents, bed rails, and tail lamps. The dark finish is said to give the Wildtrak an even bolder look. Other unique features include rectangular fog lamps, a revised sports hoop, Wildtrak graphics, and 18-inch machined alloy wheels. Pride Orange will be the special model’s signature color. That name is intended to bring to mind a pride of lions, according to the automaker. Other exterior colors include Cool White, Black Mica, Aluminum Metallic, and Metropolitan Gray.

Orange is found inside on the seats and dash stitching to contrast with dark interior. The dashboard features a dual-TFT instrument display, while the infotainment system features an 8.0-inch touchscreen. The climate vent rings feature a shadow chrome finish.

Smart technologies include a SYNC 2 in-car connectivity system that uses natural voice commands to control climate control, infotainment, and navigation systems. A 240-volt outlet can power a laptop or similar devices. Driver assist technologies include Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist, TPMS, Electronic Stability Program, Driver Impairment Monitor, and Emergency Assistance is available in certain markets. Other features include Hill Launch Assist, Hill Descent Control, Electronic Stability Control, and Emergency Brake Assistance.

Power for the Ranger Wildtrak comes from Ford’s 3.2-liter Duratorq five-cylinder turbodiesel rated at 197 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can also opt for a 2.2-liter Duratorq four-cylinder turbodiesel that makes 158 hp and 284 lb-ft. Four-wheel-drive versions feature an electronically controlled transfer case. With 9 inches of ground clearance, the Ford Ranger Wildtrak can wade through 31.5 inches of water. Towing capacity is rated up to 7,700 pounds.
