Buying a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat from your local dealership will cost $60,990 after destination, but one bidder at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction anted up $825,000 for the very first production model, which bears a VIN ending in “0001.”
The winning bid for the special 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat came from Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick. Because The Engelstad Family Foundation of Las Vegas had agreed to match the auction sale price dollar-for-dollar, the charity Opportunity Village will receive $1.65 million from the Hellcat auction. The auction car comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission instead of the six-speed manual that is standard, but like all Challenger Hellcats it packs a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine good for 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.
The high-powered Hellcat wasn’t the only unique car sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction. The final copy of the 50 Years Limited Edition version of the 2015 Ford Mustang also went under the hammer, attracting $170,000 from the winning bidder. Jack Fairchild will receive the final version of the car with the serial badge “1964,” with proceeds from his bid going to benefit the Henry Ford Health System.
The 50 Years Limited Edition model is based on the 2015 Ford Mustang GT with its optional performance package, and adds retro design cues that include Wimbledon White paint, additional chrome exterior trim, louvered quarter windows, and special aluminum dashboard trim pieces. The Mustang GT uses a 5.0-liter V-8 engine good for 435 hp and 400 lb-ft.
