Feature Flick: Behind the Scenes with Aston Martin's Stuck Brothers
Put aside some time out of your day and get the popcorn ready for this 20-minute-long look at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring race. Focusing on the Stuck brothers, who drive for Aston Martin's factory team, we get a behind-the-scenes peek at the trials and tribulations of endurance racing.
The mini-documentary - called "Brothers Pursuit" - follows Johannes and Ferdinand Stuck as they prepare for, test for, and race in the 2012 24 Hours of Nürburgring in their #007 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 racecar. It's little surprise that the brothers helped Aston Martin to a triple-podium finish this year, as they are the sons of three-time 24 Hours of Nürburgring winner Hans-Joachim Stuck.
The first third of the flick isn't terribly interesting as we watch the boys get ready for the race, head to the track, check in, and prepare for qualifying. It's only then - after Johannes runs a spectacular set of qualifying laps to start the team in 17th place - that the visuals become enticing. "Brothers Pursuit" is well-shot, giving us full view of the Aston roaring across the undulating curves of the legendary track and of the crew in the pit standing by. When the V12 Vantage GT3 gets damaged by a tire blowout around the half-way mark, we can feel the sense of dread and sadness of the crew as we wait for the car to be brought in. The cinematography is excellent and does a fantastic job of relaying the excitement, the fervor, and the stress of the race to viewers.
