Feature Flick: 2014 Fiat 500L Brings an “Italian Invasion”
Colonials take it all off in a new ad for the 500L.
You may remember Fiat's recent ads for the 2013 500 depicting the little Cinquecento arriving in America after a long trek across the Atlantic. Now that Fiat has expanded its model line with the larger, four-door 2014 Fiat 500L, the company has introduced a new ad campaign that plays on a more historic idea of arrival in America.
Set in an anachronistic version of the Revolutionary War where Italian Fiats invade instead of the British, this cheeky ad plays on Italian sensuality and sex appeal as a confused Paul Revere flubs his famous announcement, "the British are coming!" when he realizes that it's actually the Italians.
A bright red cavalcade of Fiats rolls into the colonial town and the inhabitants scramble to welcome the invasion as we see what might have happened if it really had been the Italians instead of the British back in the 18th century. Apparently the Italians would have brought over their penchant for sex appeal and espresso along with the 500L's distinctive styling , as these colonials suddenly disrobe, let their hair out, and give smoldering looks to welcome their Italian invaders.
The 2014 Fiat 500L starts at $19,900 with destination and is powered by a 1.4-liter, 160hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The 500L is on sale now in Pop, Easy, Trekking, and Lounge trim levels. Check out the ad below.
