Feast Your Eyes on the Camaro ZL1 Feasting on the Nurburgring
New King of the ‘Ring?
Chevrolet isn't holding back in terms of teasing enthusiasts who are eagerly awaiting the new 640-hp 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. First, Chevy gave us a tantalizingly all-too brief ride-along. Then, Chevy announced that its new ten-speed automatic gearbox was quicker than Porsche's PDK, a claim that surely has Stuttgart scrambling to make adjustments. Now, the new Camaro ZL1 and its supercharged LT4 V-8 have been spotted caning it around the Nurburgring.
As you'll see, the Camaro ZL1 looks as sure-footed as its Z/28 predecessor. It never seems to break traction or even look as if it is struggling to keep its 640-hp monster of an engine in line. The Camaro ZL1 blitzes through the Nurburgring's tight corners with all the poise of a ballet dancer and all the ferocity of a Nile crocodile eating a wildebeest.
Even as the Camaro ZL1 brakes hard so as to enter the Carousel sector, the car does not seem particularly disconcerted by the infamously bumpy section of the track. In fact, there's almost no dive in the Camaro ZL1's nose at all. An interesting aside: if you listen carefully to the Camaro ZL1 as it downshifts and upshifts entering and exiting each turn, it seems that both the red and blue cars have the ten-speed automatic gearbox option as the shifts happen far too quick for it to be the available six-speed manual.
The Camaro ZL1 will go on sale later this year, pricing and availability have yet to be announced, but stay tuned as it will likely be announced soon.
