Europe-Only Ford Fiesta ST200 Unveiled Ahead of Geneva

Forbidden fruit.

For once, the U.S. got the Ford Fiesta ST hot hatch around the same time that it was made available in Europe. But now Ford is making American ST fanboys jealous with a new, hotted-up Fiesta ST200 variant that's exclusive to Europe.

With upgrades to the 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbo-four, the ST200 makes 197 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque, 17 hp and 37 lb-ft more than the standard European-spec Fiesta ST. However, that doesn't include the overboost function, which means that the ST200 can produce up to 212 hp and 236 lb-ft for up to 20 seconds at a time. That makes it just a bit more powerful than the U.S.-spec Fiesta ST, too, which makes 197 hp and 202 lb-ft of torque including the overboost function. Final drive is shortened from 3.82 to 4.06; This boost in power and modified gearing drop the 0-62 mph time to 6.7 seconds, and gives the hot hatch a top speed of 143 mph.

Visually, the ST200 looks more aggressive than the regular ST, with an exclusive Storm Grey paint scheme. Matte 17-inch wheels are unique to the ST200, and red brake calipers contrast nicely with the dark grey wheels.

At this point, you've probably already called your bank to prepare a loan for an ST200 of your own. You'd better hold off on that, as Ford doesn't have any short-term plans to bring the Fiesta ST200 to the U.S. So for now, it's back to coveting forbidden European fruit.
