Chrysler to Maintain Service With Customers of Winding-Down FLO TV
Chrysler says it will take care of customers who have vehicles installed with FLO TV, the live TV service that will stop direct-to-consumer programming in Spring 2011.
FLO TV's operations are in the process of winding down, but Chrysler is developing a plan to keep the 850 customers who have bought dealer-installed FLO TV units already.
That plan will likely involve the option of switching from FLO TV to Sirius TV, which is still an option when buyers purchase the technology through Mopar, according to The Detroit News.
The mobile TV technology is optional on Chrysler vehicles with a DVD system. Passengers can enjoy children's shows, news, or live sports instead of asking the driver, "Are we there yet?"
"We are seeing strong interest in using the FLO TV network or spectrum to capitalize on the growing imbalance between mobile data supply and demand, the growth of tablets, and consumer demand for high quality video and print content, and a richer user experience," a statement reads on FLO TV's Web site. "While this process continues, we are suspending our direct to consumer sales of new devices."
The mobile TV service is $629 from Mopar, a fee that includes the first year's subscription but not installation.
