Chevrolet Blacks Out Impala, Mini-fies Sonic for SEMA
A blacked-out Impala LTZ, two Sonics with Mini Cooper-like paint jobs and dealer accessories, an SS Sport and, a Cruze RS are among the cars and trucks Chevrolet will unveil at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas next month. Chevrolet has released information on these five cars early; others will make their debut at SEMA ahead of the November 4-7 show.
"We want to become the brand of choice for personalization, performance and capability," says Jim Campbell, General Motors' vice president for performance vehicles and motorsports.
The five cars are…
Chevrolet Sonic Performance Concept
The only car of the five with engine performance parts, the Synergy green four-door hatchback with white offset stripes gets a 10-hp and 15 lb-ft-boost from a Chevrolet Performance Stage Kit with cold-air induction and high-flow exhaust, for 148 hp and 163 lb-ft. Other mods include a track-tuned, lowered suspension (0.4 inch lower than the standard Sonic RS, plus white sideview mirrors, headlamp and taillamp rings, grille surround, and rear spoiler.
Chevrolet Impala Blackout Concept
Chevy started with the top-spec LTZ trim and took what Campbell calls "a sinister approach." Using the brand's over-the-counter paint accessories, the car's grille surround, rear spoiler, mirror caps, door handles, 19-inch aluminum wheels, and grille bowtie have been blacked out. A few key pieces remain chrome, such as the daylight opening trim molding. Inside, there are custom trim plates with a wire mesh pattern, stainless-steel sill plates, a sport-pedal kit, and an 11-speaker Bose Surround-Sound System with MyLink and an 8-inch diagonal color touch screen.
Chevrolet SS Sport Concept
Which stands, apparently, for Super Sport Sport concept. It's an import: the wheel caps, floor mats and cargo tray all bear the Holden logo. The Chevy Super Sport is an Australian import based on the Holden Commodore. The SSS concept also gets Some Like it Red Hot paint, including body-color door handles and mirrors, an accessory grille kit with foglamp bezels, side fender vents and rear spoiler, accessory hood and decklid stripes, and high-gloss black 20 x 8.5-inch front/20 x 9-inch rear wheels. The 2015 Chevrolet SS is also now available with a six-speed manual transmission and Magnetic Ride Control suspension.
Chevrolet Cruze RS Plus Concept
Showing off its mild 2015 model year facelift and optional RS package, the Chevrolet Cruze "Plus" adds Wildfire Metallic paint, unique lower body moldings, custom rear spoiler, and a Chevrolet Accessories matte-black twin-stripe package. The interior gets an accessory ambient lighting kit, illuminated door sills, a sport pedal kit and a Kicker subwoofer/amplifier.
Chevrolet Sonic Accessories Concept
The appearance package adds an offset matte black stripe over the Summit White paint, white headlamp and taillamp surrounds, black grille surround, mirror covers and spoiler, black 17-inch aluminum wheels, and a suspension kit with lowered ride height.
