It seemed inevitable that BMW’s M division would eventually get its hands on the newest X5 and X6 models, and a new teaser video confirms that these go-fast SUVs are on their way sooner rather than later.
We can’t see much of the high-performance versions of the X5 and X6 in this night-vision-themed video, but the headlights and taillights visible for a few seconds give away these models as the latest cars to join the M stable. The previous-generation X5 M and X6 M models went out of production in 2013, and both the BMW X5 and X6 have received redesigns since then, but the overall formula isn’t likely to change much.
Expect both of these SUVs to use similar powertrains as their predecessors, which used a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine pumping out 555 hp to all four wheels. A slight boost in power is likely, and 600 hp wouldn’t be out of the question given that the 30th Anniversary version of the BMW M5 extracts 600 hp from its twin-turbo V-8. Suspension upgrades are a must as well, and aggressive styling will set the X5 M and X6 M apart from their mainstream counterparts.
The BMW X5 M and X6 M may make their debut as soon as the Los Angeles auto show next month. Check out the video below for a sneak peak at these high-powered bruisers before the official debut.
