"Bad Chad Customs" Goes Inside the Mind of a Mad Genius Car Builder

Catch the show on Discovery and Motor Trend On-Demand.

In a small, handbuilt shop in a rural town lives a car artist like no other: Chad Hiltz a.k.a. "Bad Chad." His one-of-a-kind creations are the product of an imagination that never stops; isolated and without much in the way of extra funds, Chad always had to be creative and resourceful. And so, using only basic tools and ingenuity, he's known for incorporating literally anything into his car builds, including parts from boats, airplanes, and even an old locker. Part MacGyver, part Willy Wonka—if Bad Chad can imagine it, he will find a way to build it.

Bad Chad Customs chronicles this master builder and his tight-knit team as they turn discarded metal into award-winning cars. It premiered New Year's Day, January 1, 2019 at 10 p.m. eastern on the Discovery Channel.

"Chad Hiltz could build a Bugatti out of a chicken coop," explains one of Chad's admiring neighbors. Already a legend in his community, Chad is now ready to take on the world with the help of his Green Goblin Customs team—shop manager and fiancée Jolene, son Colton, lifelong friend and builder Aaron, and mechanic Alex. His unique creations include The Bat out of Hell, which has kitchen cabinet door knobs and a dorsal fin, and The Green Goblin, which has its engine in the back, its trunk in the middle, and no doors.

Each episode takes viewers into Chad's mad mind, and a huge part of the excitement is in the journey and watching Chad invent one-of-a-kind masterpieces on a workingman's budget.

The series also highlights the evolving relationship between Chad and his son Colton. Growing up, the limited time Colton spent with his father had a great impact on his love for cars. Now working with his father full-time as an apprentice, Colton dives head first into the world of custom cars. And while Chad may be hard on him at times, Colton is thick-skinned and eager to learn the family business. Viewers can also catch the current season of Bad Chad Customs on the Discovery GO app—free with their paid TV subscription—and on the Motor Trend on-demand video service.

Bad Chad Customs is produced for Discovery Channel by Love Productions; Richard McKerrow, Kevin Bartel and Jake Laufer are executive producers; Jeff Garcia and Tim Beers are Co-Executive Producers.
