2018 Mercedes-AMG C63 R Coupe Caught Raising a Little Hell
Winged blue prototype runs hot on the Nurburgring
A mean looking 2018 Mercedes-AMG C63 R Coupe recently made the rounds at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, tearing up rubber and sliding across the track like a champ. This dark blue example was caught on video by YouTube user Supercarsfromeu while it was putting down test laps at the famous circuit.
While it may not be as fast as the upcoming AMG GT R, it certainly looks like a blast to drive. The R version of the 2018 C63 sports a modified body kit with flared front wheel wells and a tall rear wing attached to a black trunk lid to help keep it planted to the pavement.
Under the long hood and behind the mostly stock, wide grille is a tuned version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 that should be generating an ample amount of power from the look and sounds of the quick video. It should certainly be more than the 503 hp of the C63 S, but short of the screaming 577 hp of the Mercedes-AMG GT R.
The latest C 63 S can sprint 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds and this version seems to be aiming for a time that is easily under that mark. The turbo engine also sounds well mated to an AMG 7-speed transmission.
In the meantime, the new 2017 AMG C63 Cabriolet arrives in dealerships this fall and will have to suffice until the C63 R makes its debut sometime next year on a street near you.
