After Ford announced a Sport Appearance package for the 2017 Ford Escape at the car’s debut at the Los Angeles auto show in November, full details on the package were revealed this week at the 2016 Chicago auto show.
Despite a long pause between the car’s debut and official details on the Sport Appearance package, the Escape that rolled out in L.A. wore the same visual changes promised by the Sport pack. Visually, the new package adds 19-inch Ebony Black wheels and a gloss-black upper grille. Ebony Black front and rear skid plates are added as well, and the beltline molding, fender cladding, side mirror caps, roof-rails, and taillight bezels are also painted black.
Inside, the changes are more subtle. New partial leather-trimmed sport seats are complimented by a stitched shift knob and steering wheel.
Despite the Sporty appearance, the package does not add an additional grunt under the hood. The same 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engines are offered, sending power to either the front or all-four wheels.
This Escape package closely mirrors the recently-announced Sport Appearance pack for the 2017 Ford Explorer. While the Escape’s package is primarily focused on black trim, the Explorer cuts a distinctive look with gray-colored trim.
This new Sport Appearnace package is offered on the 2017 Ford Escape SE and the Escape Titanium, and will be available this spring.
