2016 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 Coupe Teased Ahead of Detroit Debut
Video teaser shows high performance GLE63 AMG in action.
Early in December, Mercedes-Benz revealed its latest crossover SUV, the 2016 GLE Coupe. So far, we've only seen the new crossover in AMG Sport GLE450 4Matic and standard GLE400 trims (pictured below), both of which are powered by a twin-turbo, 3.0-liter V-6 in different states of trim. Now, Mercedes has released a teaser video previewing the reveal of a GLE Coupe with a lot more firepower under the hood, the upcoming 2016 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 Coupe.
As the badge suggests, the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 Coupe will be the high-performance, full AMG variant of the normal GLE Coupe. There's no official word on the featured engine or transmission, but we predict it will most likely be the 5.5 liter twin-turbo V-8 found in the current ML63 AMG, and mated to the same seven-speed transmission.
Holding true to form, the AMG GLE63 Coupe receives the visual AMG treatment as well, with a bulkier front bumper, a vented rear bumper with an underbody diffuser, quad-exhaust tips, and larger sport wheels. The brakes appear to be upgraded, and the interior gains the AMG touch similar to the upgrades we find on the ML63 AMG. Expect the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE63 AMG Coupe to come in 4Matic configuration only, and to feature a modified suspension as well.
