2016 Mercedes-AMG CLA45, GLA45 Gain 20 HP, 18 LB-FT

0-to-60 times drop by almost 0.5 second.

The 2016 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 and GLA45 may be the brand’s smallest vehicles, but their 2.0-liter turbo-four engines pack an even bigger punch for the new model year. Tweaks to the engine improve horsepower by 20 hp to a total of 375 hp at 6,000 rpm, while torque rises 18 lb-ft to 350 lb-ft.

As a result, 0-to-60-mph acceleration for both models drops significantly. The CLA45 sees its time fall 0.3 second to 4.1 seconds, while the GLA45’s time to the benchmark falls half a second to 4.3 seconds. In addition to the horsepower boost, the gear ratios in the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions have been tweaked for improved acceleration.

The 2016 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 and GLA45 receive a handful of other updates. Push-button start becomes standard, along with “Turbo 4Matic” fender badges, dual-zone climate control, and an updated infotainment system. The cars now feature a “Dynamic Select” option for picking engine and transmission settings, instead of the previous Eco/Sport/Manual options, and models equipped with the optional Dynamic Plus package now feature a “Race” mode.

The 2016 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 and GLA45 reach U.S. dealers at the end of October. Pricing has yet to be confirmed; the 2015 CLA45 starts at $42,925 with destination, while the GLA45 starts at $49,225.
