Step aside, Autobiography Black. For the 2016 model year, the most luxurious version of the Land Rover Range Rover is the SVAutobiography, which makes its public debut at the 2015 New York auto show. It replaces and builds upon the previous Autobiography Black models.
The new name stems from the fact that the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography is built by the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) team responsible for the high-performance Range Rover Sport SVR. Like that car, the SVAutobiography benefits from a retuned 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 engine that makes 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque, up from 510 hp in the regular Range Rover Supercharged. Like the outgoing Autobiography Black, the SVAutobiography is offered only in long-wheelbase form to provide rear passengers with extra legroom.
Visually, the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography benefits from unique hood and trunk badging, a restyled polished-chrome front grille, gloss-black brake calipers, and a newly available two-tone paint scheme with Santorini Black for the upper half of the car and a choice of nine colors for the lower half. Most of the interior controls, including the pedals and shifter, are made from knurled aluminum, and the rear-seat passengers can take advantage of power-deployable tray tables and a small beverage fridge. Solid-aluminum coat hooks and deep-pile mohair floor mats complete the transformation.
Other minor changes for the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover line include an automatic function for the air suspension’s park position. When the ignition is turned off, the Range Rover’s air suspension automatically lowers by 1.4 inch to make it easier to get in and out; grabbing a door handle makes the vehicle lower itself another 0.6 inch. In addition, 2016 Range Rover models now have extra functions through the InControl Remote smartphone app, including remote engine start, and a “Remote Beep and Flash” function for locating the SUV in a parking lot.
The 2016 Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography goes on sale this fall for $200,490, including destination charges.
