Super Bowl 50 is fast approaching, and big-dollar T.V. spots continue to roll in from automakers. So far, we have seen offerings from Hyundai, Honda, Mini, and Acura. Now, two spots from Kia and Audi are ready to occupy time between Super Bowl plays.
In one of the stranger ads we have seen so far, Kia wrangled acting legend Christopher Walken to show off the new 2016 Optima. Looking for a pair of his beige dress socks, a man named Richard wanders into his “Walken” closet, where Christopher lectures him in a surreal exchange on the merits of being an interesting person, and eventually ends up behind the driver’s seat of the new 2016 Kia Optima.
Audi’s ad is more heartwarming. A bored and melancholic former astronaut sits in his home, recalling his former days of glory. When his son arrives at the house and learns of his father’s state, he summons him to the driveway, where we see a brand-new 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus. His son hands him the keys, and as he gets behind the wheel, recounts his days on the launchpad. As a bonus, we are treated to a fitting tribute of David Bowie with his hit “Starman” playing during the commercial.
