2016 Chevrolet Camaro Teased on Video
Sixth-gen Camaro shown on track.
A new video from Chevrolet celebrates an impending Camaro sales milestone, but even more important than that is the video's sneak preview of a totally new vehicle. The teaser video provides our first look at the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro in action.
The video begins by celebrating the success of the current, fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro, which will sell its 500,000th example later this month. Suddenly, the video cuts to shots of the new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro lapping a track. While the car is camouflaged, the light cladding gives us a pretty clear indication of the new pony car's design. As seen in our spy photos, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will have a lower, more rounded nose with a narrower upper grille opening between the headlights.
Along the side of the car, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will continue the current model's high-beltline, short-window silhouette, although the rear of the new car has a more fastback-like slope to the rear windshield. Its flat trunklid appears to play host to a small spoiler.
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will use General Motors' Alpha platform that is shared with the Cadillac ATS and CTS, which should help drop the car's weight. While the current model's 3.6-liter V-6 and 6.2-liter V-8 engines are expected to carry over, with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, the sixth-gen Camaro should also pack a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four borrowed from the aforementioned Cadillacs. That will help the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro improve its fuel economy ratings and face the Ford Mustang EcoBoost head-on.
Look for more information from Chevrolet in the coming weeks. The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will debut publicly sometime this spring, after the 2015 New York auto show. For now, check out the full teaser video below.
