Order books open today for 455-hp Cadillac.
BMW M3 and M4 owners, get ready to cross-shop. Cadillac announced today that the 2016 ATS-V sedan starts at $61,460 after destination, while the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V coupe will cost $63,660. That puts the new 455-hp Cadillac right on top of BMW M3/M4 pricing; those models start at $62,950 and $65,150, respectively.
A full order guide for the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V won't be available until the cars are shown on Cadillac's website in April, but a spokesman told us the cars will cost about $87,000-$88,000 when fully equipped with all options. As standard, the ATS-V packs a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V-6 engine rated for 455 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, which the company claims will rocket the car to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and toward a top speed of 189 mph. A six-speed manual transmission with no-lift shifting and automatic rev-matching comes standard, while an eight-speed automatic is optional; both feature launch control.
Other standard performance parts for the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V include a carbon-fiber hood, a stiffer suspension and extra chassis bracing, magnetic ride control adaptive suspension, a limited-slip differential, and functional hood cooling vents. Options include Brembo brakes, an aerodynamic pack that includes carbon-fiber splitters and wings, and the Performance Data Recorder camera system. A Track package bundles a lightweight battery and the PDR, and deletes the car's floor mats and tire inflation kit to save weight.
Compared to the BMW M3 and M4, the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V adds a significant amount of punch. The German performance cars feature a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine rated for 425 hp and 406 lb-ft. The 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 sedan, however, will outmuscle both of those cars; in standard form, its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 makes 469 hp and 479 lb-ft, while the C63 S makes 503 hp and 516 lb-ft. Pricing for the new C63 has yet to be confirmed, but the outgoing 2015 C63 AMG sedan lists for $63,925. The 2015 Lexus RC F, which is offered only as a coupe, has a 467-hp 5.0-liter V-8 and costs $63,325.
Dealers are now taking orders for the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V, and the first cars should hit showrooms by Memorial Day. Soon thereafter, we look forward to driving the high-performance Cadillac against its German and Japanese rivals. We're still waiting to hear how much the 640-hp, 200-mph 2016 Cadillac CTS-V will cost when it launches later this year.
