2016 Buick Encore Adds More Powerful Sport Touring Model
New engine has extra 15 hp, stop-start technology.
The 2016 Buick Encore receives a new trim level called Sport Touring, but rather than being simply an equipment pack, the model designation endows the compact luxury crossover with a more powerful engine. The Sport Touring's 1.4-liter turbo-four engine, which is not related to the standard 1.4-liter engine in other Encore models, packs 153 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, increases of 15 hp and 29 lb-ft versus the standard Buick Encore.
The new engine is part of General Motors' latest Ecotec engine family, and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The aluminum-block inline-four has several updates to reduce noise and vibration, and it also comes standard with a stop-start feature to reduce fuel consumption. While front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive remains optional.
In addition to the extra power, the 2016 Buick Encore Sport Touring wears special 18-inch aluminum wheels and a roof spoiler. The car also comes standard with the Encore's Convenience package, which bundles dual-zone climate control, fog lights, blind spot and rear cross-traffic alerts, remote start, and a 120-volt power outlet. Other options include a Bose sound system, touchscreen, navigation, and a moonroof.
Pricing for the 2016 Buick Encore Sport Touring has yet to be announced. The 2015 Encore runs from $24,990 to $31,860, with destination.
