2015 Opel Adam OPC Hot Hatch Spied
More oomph coming to the cutest Opel.
Despite looking a little like an old-school Halloween mask, the light camouflage on this Opel Adam actually hides an exciting secret - Opel is clearly working on an 2015 Adam OPC hot hatch.
Don't blink, or you might miss the changes to this Adam OPC test mule. While the camo hides the OPC-signature blacked-out head- and taillight housing, there are a couple other clues that give us the impression that this is a more powerful version of the Adam city car. Up front, we can see an additional air intake hiding behind the license plate, which we assume is there to help channel more air to a more-powerful engine. Until an OPC variant emerges, the most-powerful Adam will be motivated by a 115-hp 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder. Other OPC cues include larger, five-lug wheels that hide blue brake calipers, a signifier of Opel's OPC performance models. This specific Adam also looks to ride lower than the normal one, hinting at a sports suspension. The fact that the car was caught testing near Germany's famed Nürburgring also helps give credence to this being a hotter OPC Adam.
Out spy shooter indicates that we can expect output around 150 hp for the Opel Adam OPC when it goes on sale, probably late next year. That would put the cheery Adam in good company with its main competition, the 160-hp Fiat 500 Abarth and the 133-hp Renault Twingo R.S.
