Just because the 2015 Jeep Renegade is the smallest Jeep doesn’t mean it can’t pack some off-road capability. That’s what Jeep wants to prove with this new video that shows the baby Jeep tackling the Silver Lake sand dunes in western Michigan.
Unsurprisingly, the model shown in this video is the off-road-oriented 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk, which is the only version of this crossover to receive Jeep’s “Trail Rated” designation. The Trailhawk’s upgrades consist of an Active Drive Low four-wheel-drive system with a low range, an increased ride height, off-road tires, hill-descent control, and different front and rear fascias that improve approach and departure angles. The Renegade Trailhawk also comes standard with the larger, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine making 184 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
On the sand dunes, the engineers put the car’s Selec-Terrain system into sand mode, which can control how much torque is sent to each wheel to make for better traction in the soft stuff. With help from the slightly deflated tires, the 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk looks to hold its own over the sandy terrain, at least from what we can tell from the short clips in the video.
We’re looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the 2015 Jeep Renegade ourselves to see if it can live up to Jeep’s off-road-ready reputation. Keep an eye out for our first drive of this new small crossover within the next few months.
