2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, COPO Camaro Headed to Barrett-Jackson Auction
Barrett-Jackson will hold a charity auction for two of Chevrolet's top performance cars this weekend, with the first examples of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and 2014 Chevrolet COPO Camaro crossing the block.
The proceeds from the 2014 Chevrolet COPO Camaro will benefit the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, which helps wounded veterans to get involved in marathon running, while funds from the sale of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 will go to Detroit's Cornerstone Schools, recognized as a highly successful urban education model.
The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 has already gained a reputation as one of the best-performing Camaros ever built, registering a 7:37.40 lap on the Nürburgring. A full four seconds swifter than the 2012 Camaro ZL1, an example of which previously sold at Barrett-Jackson for a whopping $250,000, this race-bred Z/28 could draw an eye-popping sale price. The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 utilizes a burly 7.0-liter V-8, breathing 505 hp and 481 lb-ft of naturally aspirated American muscle. Its track-prepped suspension, aerodynamic body, and close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox make it as capable as it is collectible.
First shown at the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, the 2014 Chevrolet COPO Camaro is specially built for NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock racing categories. The track-only COPO Camaro is, as in previous years, one of only 69 limited-production vehicles built by Chevrolet. The show car is specially painted in Ice Blue Metallic satin, and equipped with a Whipple screw-type supercharged 350 cubic-inch V-8 mated to a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission.
"Chevrolet is excited to offer these two milestone cars for the Barrett-Jackson bidders, with all the proceeds going to help a pair of very worthy groups," said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports for General Motors.
The auction will be broadcast on the National Geographic Channel, and bids can be submitted either in person or at barrett-jackson.com
