2014 Alfa Romeo 4C Laps the Nürburgring in 8:04

The Alfa Romeo 4C takes a quick lap around the ‘Ring.

The 2014 Alfa Romeo 4C may be slow in getting to the U.S., but it certainly isn’t slow around the track. The upcoming lightweight Italian sports car has just set a Nürburgring lap time of 8 minutes and 4 seconds, according to Alfa Romeo’s U.K. press office.

Alfa Romeo says this is the fastest time around the ‘Ring for cars packing less than 250 hp; the Alfa Romeo 4C is powered by a 240 hp, 1.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. This is slower than the 325 hp Porsche Cayman S’ fastest lap of 7 minutes 55 seconds, but the Alfa Romeo 4C competes more directly with the 275 hp base Porsche Cayman, which has not set an official lap around the ‘Ring.

Keep in mind that this impressive lap time is for the Euro-spec Alfa Romeo 4C; since we know that the U.S.-spec car will be 220 lbs heavier due to safety regulations, expect slightly diminished performance from the Alfa Romeo 4Cs that come to our shores. This weight increase will push the curb weight of the Alfa Romeo 4C to an estimated 2193 lbs. Even still, this is considerably lighter than a 2888 lb Porsche Cayman.

The 2014 Alfa Romeo 4C is slated to arrive in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2014, later than originally expected. We expect a starting price of around $54,000, and the Alfa Romeo 4C will be sold through Maserati dealers in the U.S.
